Steel City Cycling We are a very special group, well, in the sense that we are cyclists trying to cling to the youthful cycling lifestyle while being overrun by this thing called adulthood (kids, jobs, mortgages, etc...) It seems most teams that we have been on or known are 20-somethings that don't have kids and somehow have cash enough for coaching and spending 12-15 hours a week on a bike. Now as dreamy as that sounds, most of us realize that we actually do have jobs, kids, and mortgages, so some adjustments had to be made. We needed a team to ride with but not one that required some Draconian set of races and training schedules. Thus was the birth of something beautiful: (cue the Angelic choirs.) Team Low Commitment TM -- a.k.a Steel City Cycling About the team: We love bikes of all kinds, and we try to ride them as often as possible. Generally there is a group of us that meet up on weekends for long rides to complement our weekday training. We are putting together a race schedule in order to get us out of the house for the really fun stuff. Competition. What kind of racing/riding do we do you might ask? We race criteriums, Cyclo-Cross, Mountain bikes, charity century rides. Steel City Cyclists are also are fantastically good at sitting on couches while watching racing, and we are currently waiting with bated breath for Xbox to come out with a Pro Tour Lance Armstrong Edition cycling video game so we can sit on our couches more but still feel "in tune" with the cycling world. "Off the Front or Out the Back" The Team Motto While we espouse the philosophy of Team Low Commitment TM, we do want participation. There aren't a set number of races that you must ride in order to be part of the team, but we do want you out with us for as many races and training rides as you can. You will get stronger, have fun, gather racing war stories (i.e. scars) to tell your grandkids, and the best part, of course, is that you get to hang out with brilliantly funny and intelligent people like us. I mean who wouldn't like this opportunity seriously! If you are excited about the potential of joining up with one of the premier Low Commitment Teams on the planet, contact us and we will get you out on the roads for one of our rigorous Team Low Commitment TM initiation rides. Generally, if you show up, can stay upright on the bike (for most of the ride), have some riding skills, and aren't a complete tool, you will be welcomed into the fold of Steel City Cycling. On the other hand, if you actually are a total tool, we will still wish you well but we might make fun of you behind your back for months afterwards. See you on the roads! |
